WHOIS lookupLookups

WHOIS lookup. Who registered a domain, and when.

Type a domain. You get its public WHOIS record from WhoisXML: the registrar, when the domain was created, when it expires, how old it is, its status codes and its name servers. Most owners hide their contact details, so those show as redacted.

Each run is free to you and limited per hour. The data is public. Powered by looot. Run it on your own looot account for heavier or repeated use.

Run it from your agent

Copy one prompt, give it to your agent.

Fill in the placeholder, paste it, and the agent runs the same job on your looot account and shows the cost. It can take a whole list, which the box above does not.

  • You give it: a domain, such as hubspot.com.
  • Billed per call, nothing while your agent is idle.
  • The agent shows the price before it calls.

Use it for

What people do with whois lookup

  • Check a domain's age

See when a domain was first registered before you trust a site, buy a link on it or sign a deal with it.

  • Plan a domain purchase

Read the expiry date and the registrar of a name you want, so you know who to ask and when it may free up.

  • Vet a sender

A domain created last week that emails you an invoice is a warning sign. The created date tells you.

  • Agent domain checks

Let your agent run a list of domains and return the registrar and age of each one.

FAQ

Questions about whois lookup

A query to the public registration record of a domain. The record lists the registrar that sold it, when it was created and when it expires, its status codes and the name servers it points to. Some records also show the owner's organization and country.

From WhoisXML, which reads the registry and registrar records of the domain and returns them in one format. The tool shows the parsed fields, not the raw text.

Since GDPR in 2018, most registrars hide the name, address, phone and email of the person behind a domain. The record then says redacted for privacy. This page never shows an owner's name, street, phone or email, even when the record has them.

Run the domain in the box at the top of this page. The domain age row shows the days since the creation date, and the years row rounds it down.

Look at the registrant organization and country rows. When they are missing, the owner hid them. The registrar abuse contact is the official way to reach the registrar about the domain.

They are the locks the registry or registrar set on the domain. clientTransferProhibited means it cannot move to another registrar without the owner unlocking it. clientDeleteProhibited and clientUpdateProhibited block deletion and changes.

This page takes domains only. Your agent can send an IP address to the same endpoint, and the IP lookup tool on this site shows the network and location of an IP.

Yes. Each run on this page costs you nothing and is limited per hour. For many domains, your agent runs the same endpoint on your own looot account at the per-call price shown above.

Copy the prompt above into your agent with the looot skill.md link. It picks the WHOIS endpoint, checks the price and returns one row per domain.
