## Install and connect

- Download and unzip. Unzip it into a folder you keep. Chrome loads Whozit from there.
- Load it in Chrome. Open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked and pick the folder.
- Connect your looot key. Create a key under Settings, API keys. Paste it in the Whozit Settings tab, then top up your balance.

## What each lookup returns

- Who owns this website (job:company.enrich): Company name, industry, employee count, founding year, country, city, LinkedIn page and a short description. Input: The domain of the tab, or the LinkedIn company page you have open.
- Website traffic (job:company.traffic): Estimated monthly visits, global rank, country rank, category, bounce rate, pages per visit, time on site and the share of visits by source: direct, referrals, organic search, social, mail, AI assistants and ads. Input: The domain of the tab.
- Tech stack (job:company.technographics): The technologies the site runs on, shown as a list: CMS, analytics, payments, hosting and the rest the provider detects. Input: The domain of the tab.
- SEO and backlinks (job:backlinks.domain.summary): Domain rank, backlinks, referring domains, spam score and the date the domain was first seen. Input: The domain of the tab.
- Domain record (WHOIS) (job:domain.whois.lookup): Owner organization and country when the record is not redacted, registrar, creation and expiry dates, domain age and name servers. Input: The domain of the tab.
- Recent news (job:news.search): Up to six headlines with their source, date and link. Input: A search query, filled in with the domain or the profile name.
- LinkedIn profile (job:linkedin.person.profile): Name, headline, current role and company, location, followers, school and the about text. Input: The LinkedIn profile you have open, or a profile URL you paste.
- Find a work email (job:people.email.find, then job:people.email.verify): The work email, then a deliverability check that runs only when an address is found. Input: A first and last name at the domain of the tab, or the LinkedIn profile you have open.
- Verify an email (job:people.email.verify): Valid, invalid, catch-all, risky or unknown. Input: An email address you type.

## Price per lookup

Each lookup shows its listed price from the live looot catalog before it runs. The page at https://looot.ai/whozit lists the current price of each one.

## You see the price first

- Each lookup shows its price and the most it can charge. Nothing runs until you confirm.
- You see what each lookup charged. The session total sits at the bottom of the panel.
- Set a cap per lookup and per session.
- No subscription. You pay per lookup from your prepaid looot balance.

## Privacy

- Three permissions: side panel, storage and active tab. One host: api.looot.ai. The manifest's content security policy allows connections to that host only.
- No content scripts. When you click the toolbar icon, Whozit reads the address and title of that tab, never the page content, your cookies or your LinkedIn session.
- It sends a domain, profile URL, name or email to api.looot.ai only when you confirm that lookup.
- Your key stays in this browser's local extension storage and is not synced. The extension sends no analytics.

## Chrome Web Store

The Chrome Web Store version is coming. Until then, the zip above is the same build.

## Who owns this website? How does Whozit find out?

Whozit sends the domain of the tab to looot, which asks a company data provider for the company behind it: name, industry, size, founding year, location and LinkedIn page. For the legal registrant, the WHOIS lookup shows the owner organization when the record is not redacted.

## How do I track competitors with it?

Open a competitor's site and run the lookups you need: traffic for visits and where they come from, tech stack for the tools they use, SEO for backlinks and recent news for launches and hires. Each one is a separate lookup with its own price.

## Is Whozit free?

Installing it is free. The Catalog tab searches the looot catalog with no account. Each lookup is paid from your looot balance at the price the panel shows before you confirm. There is no subscription.

## Why a zip download? Is Whozit on the Chrome Web Store?

The Chrome Web Store version is coming. Until it is live, the zip on this page is the same build. Chrome may remind you that a Developer mode extension is installed; that is expected for a loaded folder.

## Does Whozit read the pages I visit?

No. It has no content scripts. It reads the address and title of the tab you opened it on, to choose the lookups and fill in the domain or profile URL. Nothing leaves your browser until you confirm a lookup.

## Where is my looot key stored?

In this browser's local extension storage. Chrome does not sync it to your Google account. It is sent only to api.looot.ai, in the Authorization header of your own lookups.

## Are the traffic numbers exact?

No. A traffic panel estimates them. Whozit never sees the site's own analytics. Small or new sites may have no data. The panel says so.

## How do I check the download?

Compare the SHA-256 on this page with the one your computer gives for the zip, for example with shasum -a 256 on macOS. The source code is public under the MIT licence.
