# YouTube comments API for your agent

YouTube comments API for an agent: it sends a YouTube video link or ID to a catalog endpoint and reads comment text, author and like count back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## What this does

Comments are the cheapest focus group there is. Your agent sends a video link, reads back the comments with their authors, like counts and dates, and groups them into what viewers ask for, praise and complain about. It also finds the questions a creator never answered.

The three providers differ in depth. One returns comments and replies, ordered by top or newest, and pages with a token until it hits the platform's own ceiling of about 1,000 top comments or 7,000 newest. One returns top-level comments with a token for each comment's replies. One returns the top 20 comments live.

You give: a YouTube video link or ID. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ.

## What differs between providers

- Scrape Creators API (scrapecreators-youtube-video-comments): returns comments and replies with the author, like count, reply count and date, ordered by top or newest, and pages with a continuation token.
- TikHub (tikhub-api-youtube-web-v2-get-video-comments): takes a video ID and returns top-level comments with likes, reply count and author, plus a token for fetching replies.
- DataForSEO (dataforseo-serp-youtube-video-comments-live-advanced): returns the top 20 comments live, with the author and the key comment metrics.

## Before you start

- Choose the order. Top comments show what resonates, and newest shows what viewers say now.
- Mind the ceiling. YouTube exposes about 1,000 top comments or 7,000 newest through one provider here, and no call gets past that.
- Replies are a separate call on one provider and come with the comments on another. Decide up front whether the threads matter, because each reply fetch is billed.

## Prompt

Use looot to pull the newest comments on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ and group them by what viewers ask for or complain about. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Search the catalog for each step and check its price before you call. 3. Run the cheapest endpoint that fits. 4. Show the results as a table and the total cost.

## Steps and providers

- Fetch the comments: scrapecreators, tikhub, dataforseo. 1 call per video.

## What comes back

- Comment text
- Author
- Like count
- Reply count
- Publish date

## The request and what comes back

Each run is one POST to /v1/runs with an endpoint id and an input. These are illustrative calls with generic values. The run's result holds the provider's own fields.

- Scrape Creators API: {"endpointId":"scrapecreators-youtube-video-comments","input":{"url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ","order":"newest"},"wait":30}
- TikHub: {"endpointId":"tikhub-api-youtube-web-v2-get-video-comments","input":{"video_id":"dQw4w9WgXcQ","sort_by":"top"},"wait":30}

## How do I scrape YouTube comments?

Send the video link to a comments endpoint. Your agent reads the comments as JSON with the text, the author, the likes and the date, and pages with a token for more.

## How many comments can I get?

One provider here is limited to about 1,000 top comments or 7,000 newest per video. The live endpoint returns the top 20. Each page is a separate call and a separate charge.

## Can I get the replies to a comment?

Yes. One provider returns replies with the comments, and another gives a token per comment that you use in a replies call.

## Can I analyze sentiment?

Your agent does that with its own model once it has the text. looot returns the comments and bills the calls. It does not score sentiment itself.

## What does each comment include?

The text, the author, the like count, the reply count and the date, on the providers that return them. The live endpoint returns the author and the key comment metrics for the top 20.

## How much does one video cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.

## Do I pay when a youtube comments call fails?

No. A call that fails at the provider costs nothing, and your agent can retry it or send it to another provider.

## Do I need an account with each youtube comments provider?

No. One looot key reaches every provider in the catalog. You top up once, and each call is billed at the price shown before it runs.

## How do I call youtube comments from code?

Send a POST to /v1/runs with the endpoint id, the input and a new idempotency key, and your looot token in the Authorization header. With wait set to 30, the answer comes back in the response when the run ends within 30 seconds. Otherwise poll GET /v1/runs/<runId>.

## Can I run youtube comments on a schedule?

That needs scheduled runs, not available yet. Run it by hand whenever you want fresh results.

## Do I pay while my agent is idle?

No. looot bills per call, and nothing runs while your agent is idle.
