# Stock quote API for your agent

Stock quote API for an agent: it sends a ticker symbol to a catalog endpoint and reads latest price, change and percent change back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## What this does

A quote is the latest price of a stock and the numbers around it. Your agent sends a ticker and reads back the price, the change on the day, the day's range and the volume. That covers a portfolio check, a pre-meeting brief and any answer that starts from what a share costs now.

The providers differ in how fresh the number is. One returns delayed real-time prices for one or several tickers. Two return the latest end-of-day and the latest intraday bar for a symbol. One returns the quote tab of Google Finance live. Read the notes before you call it a live price, because delayed is the rule for most of these.

You give: a ticker symbol. Example: AAPL.

## What differs between providers

- EODHD Financial Data API (eodhd-real-time): returns delayed real-time prices for one ticker, with more tickers through an extra parameter.
- Marketstack (marketstack-tickers-eod-latest): returns the latest end-of-day data for a symbol.
- Marketstack (marketstack-tickers-intraday-latest): returns the latest intraday data for a symbol, with an interval and an after-hours option.
- DataForSEO (dataforseo-serp-google-finance-quote-live-advanced): returns the quote tab of Google Finance live for a ticker, with a location and a language.

## Before you start

- Check the delay. Delayed real-time means the price is minutes old, and end-of-day means yesterday's close. Neither is an order price.
- Use the exchange suffix when a provider asks for it. The same company trades on several exchanges, and a bare ticker can match the wrong one.
- This is data, not advice. Your agent can report a price, and it does not know your situation.

## Prompt

Use looot to get the current quote for AAPL: price, change, open, high, low and volume, and say when the price was last updated. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Search the catalog for each step and check its price before you call. 3. Run the cheapest endpoint that fits. 4. Show the results as a table and the total cost.

## Steps and providers

- Fetch the quote: eodhd, marketstack, dataforseo. 1 call per ticker.

## What comes back

- Latest price
- Change and percent change
- Open, high and low
- Volume
- Timestamp

## The request and what comes back

Each run is one POST to /v1/runs with an endpoint id and an input. These are illustrative calls with generic values. The run's result holds the provider's own fields.

- EODHD Financial Data API: {"endpointId":"eodhd-real-time","input":{"ticker":"AAPL.US"},"wait":30}
- Marketstack: {"endpointId":"marketstack-tickers-eod-latest","input":{"symbol":"AAPL"},"wait":30}

## How do I get a stock quote through an API?

Send the ticker to a quote endpoint. Your agent reads the price, the change and the day's range from the response.

## Is the price real time?

On the providers here, mostly not. One returns delayed real-time prices, and the others return the latest end-of-day or intraday bar. The endpoint page states the delay.

## Can I get several tickers in one call?

On the real-time endpoint, yes, through an extra parameter. The others take one symbol per call, and your agent loops over the list.

## Do I need the exchange in the ticker?

Sometimes. One provider wants a ticker with an exchange suffix such as AAPL.US. Another takes the bare symbol.

## Can my agent place trades with this?

No. looot returns market data. It does not trade, and nothing on this page is investment advice.

## How much does one ticker cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.

## Do I pay when a stock quote call fails?

No. A call that fails at the provider costs nothing, and your agent can retry it or send it to another provider.

## Do I need an account with each stock quote provider?

No. One looot key reaches every provider in the catalog. You top up once, and each call is billed at the price shown before it runs.

## How do I call stock quote from code?

Send a POST to /v1/runs with the endpoint id, the input and a new idempotency key, and your looot token in the Authorization header. With wait set to 30, the answer comes back in the response when the run ends within 30 seconds. Otherwise poll GET /v1/runs/<runId>.

## Can I run stock quote on a schedule?

That needs scheduled runs, not available yet. Run it by hand whenever you want fresh results.

## Do I pay while my agent is idle?

No. looot bills per call, and nothing runs while your agent is idle.
