# Stock news API for your agent

Stock news API for an agent: it sends a ticker symbol or a company name to a catalog endpoint and reads headline, summary and source back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## What this does

News moves prices, and a ticker is the key that finds it. Your agent sends a symbol or a company and reads back the headlines with their source and date. It is the first step of a morning brief, a watchlist check or a research note.

Three providers return it, and they search differently. One takes a ticker or a topic and returns financial news articles, with a date range, a limit and an offset. One searches news for one company by name, domain, ticker or ISIN, and scores how well each article matches the company. One returns financial-market news tagged with ticker symbols.

You give: a ticker symbol or a company name. Example: AAPL.US.

## What differs between providers

- EODHD Financial Data API (eodhd-news): takes a ticker or a topic, with a date range, a limit and an offset, and returns financial news articles.
- Context API (context-dev-news-search): searches news for one company by name, domain, ticker or ISIN, and returns how well each article matches.
- NewsData.io API (newsdata-io-1-market): returns financial-market news articles tagged with stock ticker symbols.

## Before you start

- Set a date range. The default may reach back further than you want, and each article returned can be billed.
- Search by company identity when you can. A name search is noisy, and a ticker or a domain narrows it to the right firm.
- Read the source. A headline from a wire service and one from a blog carry different weight, and the source field tells you which.

## Prompt

Use looot to get the latest news for AAPL.US from the last week, return headline, source, date and link, and say which stories look like they could move the price. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Search the catalog for each step and check its price before you call. 3. Run the cheapest endpoint that fits. 4. Show the results as a table and the total cost.

## Steps and providers

- Fetch the news: eodhd, context-dev, newsdata-io. 1 call per ticker.

## What comes back

- Headline and summary
- Source
- Published date
- Link
- Sentiment or match quality

## The request and what comes back

Each run is one POST to /v1/runs with an endpoint id and an input. These are illustrative calls with generic values. The run's result holds the provider's own fields.

- EODHD Financial Data API: {"endpointId":"eodhd-news","input":{"s":"AAPL.US","limit":10},"wait":30}

## Can I get news for several tickers?

Your agent loops over the list, one call per ticker, and merges the headlines into one brief. Each call is billed on its own, so the total grows with the list.

## What can my agent do with the headlines?

It can group them by company, drop duplicates from different outlets and flag the stories that mention earnings, a lawsuit or a guidance change. It reports facts and links, not predictions.

## How do I get news for a stock ticker?

Send the ticker to a news endpoint with a date range. Your agent reads back the headlines with their source, date and link.

## Can I search news by company name?

Yes. One provider searches by name, domain, ticker or ISIN, and returns a match score so you can drop weak hits.

## Does it include sentiment?

The catalog has a news-sentiment endpoint from the first provider. Ask your agent to look it up. The news calls here return the articles.

## How far back can I go?

That depends on the provider and the plan behind it. Set the date range in the call and read the endpoint page for the limits.

## How much does one ticker cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.

## Do I pay when a stock news call fails?

No. A call that fails at the provider costs nothing, and your agent can retry it or send it to another provider.

## Do I need an account with each stock news provider?

No. One looot key reaches every provider in the catalog. You top up once, and each call is billed at the price shown before it runs.

## How do I call stock news from code?

Send a POST to /v1/runs with the endpoint id, the input and a new idempotency key, and your looot token in the Authorization header. With wait set to 30, the answer comes back in the response when the run ends within 30 seconds. Otherwise poll GET /v1/runs/<runId>.

## Can I run stock news on a schedule?

That needs scheduled runs, not available yet. Run it by hand whenever you want fresh results.

## Do I pay while my agent is idle?

No. looot bills per call, and nothing runs while your agent is idle.
