# Google News API for your agent

Google News API for an agent: it sends a topic or a search query to a catalog endpoint and reads headline, source and published date back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## Live prices

Prices read on 2026-10-14 from the live looot catalog. They change when a provider changes its price.

Cheapest today: AnyAPI at $0.00099 per call.

| Provider (endpoint) | Price | Per 1,000 |
|---|---|---|
| AnyAPI (anyapi-run-google-news) | $0.00099 per call | $0.99 |
| Serper (serper-news) | $0.0010 per call | $1.00 |
| DataForSEO (dataforseo-google-news-advanced) | $0.0020 per call | $2.00 |
| SerpApi (serpapi-google-news) | $0.0250 per call | $25.00 |
| Anysite (anysite-api-google-news-articles-search) | $0.03597 per call | $35.97 |

## What this does

A model cannot tell you what happened this morning. To follow a market, a competitor or a story, your agent needs the latest articles with their outlet and date. One news search returns the headlines Google News shows for a topic, as data your agent can sort, dedupe and cite.

On looot the simplest route is the job: send job:news.search with fallback on, and looot picks a provider and tries the next one on a miss. The endpoints below read Google News results through different providers. They differ in filters: a time window, a country and a language, one publisher, or an exact phrase.

You give: a topic or a search query. Example: solid state batteries.

## What differs between providers

- Serper (serper-news): returns title, link, snippet, date, source and image, with paging and a time filter from the last hour to the last year.
- AnyAPI (anyapi-run-google-news): takes search operators such as site: and OR, a time window such as 30d, and a city-level location, at a flat price per request.
- DataForSEO (dataforseo-google-news-advanced): takes a list of tasks, each with a keyword, a location and a language, and returns titles, sources, dates and snippets.
- SerpApi (serpapi-google-news): returns news results with title, link, source, date and thumbnail, and can open one news section by its topic token.
- Any Site API (anysite-api-google-news-articles-search): narrows the search to an exact phrase, excluded words, one publisher and a period, and returns the source domain.

## Before you start

- Set a time window. Serper takes the last hour, day, week, month or year, and AnyAPI takes a count such as 2h or 30d. Without one, older articles can fill the page.
- Set the country and the language when the story is local. Most endpoints take a country code and a language code, and the results change with them.
- Pin an endpoint when you need Google News itself. With job:news.search and fallback on, looot can also answer from Brave, which searches its own index, or from NewsData.io.
- Results are headlines and snippets, not whole articles. To read one, send its link to the URL to markdown API.

## Prompt

Use looot to run job:news.search with fallback on for solid state batteries in the United States, and return the headline, source, date and link of the 10 newest articles with the provider that answered. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Search the catalog for each step and check its price before you call. 3. Run the cheapest endpoint that fits. 4. Show the results as a table and the total cost.

## Steps and providers

- Search the news: serper, anyapi, dataforseo, serpapi, anysite. 1 call per search.

## What comes back

- Headline
- Source
- Published date
- Link
- Snippet

## The request and what comes back

Each run is one POST to /v1/runs with an endpoint id and an input. These are illustrative calls with generic values. The run's result holds the provider's own fields.

- Serper: {"endpointId":"serper-news","input":{"q":"solid state batteries","gl":"us","hl":"en","tbs":"qdr:w"},"wait":30}
- AnyAPI: {"endpointId":"anyapi-run-google-news","input":{"query":"solid state batteries","gl":"us","hl":"en","timeframe":"7d"},"wait":30}

## What it cannot do

It returns headlines, sources, dates and links, not the full text of each article, and it cannot open articles behind a paywall. It does not score sentiment. Watching a topic for new stories needs scheduled runs, not available yet.

## How do I get Google News results with an API?

Send a query to one of the endpoints on this page, or to job:news.search with fallback on. Your agent reads the headline, source, date and link of each article from the run's result as JSON.

## Can I limit the results to the last 24 hours?

Yes. Serper takes a one-day time filter, AnyAPI takes 24h or 1d, and Anysite takes a period. Your agent passes the window with the query.

## Can I get news from one website only?

Yes. AnyAPI accepts site: in the query, and Anysite takes a website field for one publisher. The other endpoints search every outlet Google News shows.

## Can I search news outside Google News?

Yes. Brave searches its own news index, and NewsData.io returns the newest articles from the past 48 hours. Both answer job:news.search, and the best news APIs list compares them.

## How do I get news for one stock ticker?

Use the stock news API page. Its endpoints search by ticker or company and score how well each article matches, which a plain topic search does not do.

## Does it return the full article text?

No. Each result is a headline, a snippet, a source, a date and a link. Your agent opens the articles it needs with the URL to markdown API.

## How much does one search cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.

## Do I pay when a google News call fails?

No. A call that fails at the provider costs nothing, and your agent can retry it or send it to another provider.

## Do I need an account with each google News provider?

No. One looot key reaches every provider in the catalog. You top up once, and each call is billed at the price shown before it runs.

## How do I call google News from code?

Send a POST to /v1/runs with the endpoint id, the input and a new idempotency key, and your looot token in the Authorization header. With wait set to 30, the answer comes back in the response when the run ends within 30 seconds. Otherwise poll GET /v1/runs/<runId>.

## Can I run google News on a schedule?

That needs scheduled runs, not available yet. Run it by hand whenever you want fresh results.

## Do I pay while my agent is idle?

No. looot bills per call, and nothing runs while your agent is idle.
