# Live crypto prices API for your agent

Live crypto prices API for an agent: it sends a coin symbol, slug or ID to a catalog endpoint and reads price, market cap and 24 hour volume back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## What this does

A crypto price lookup returns the latest price and the market data around it. Your agent sends a symbol and reads back the price, the market cap, the 24 hour volume and the 24 hour change. For a list view, it pages through the active coins with filters on market cap and supply.

All the endpoints here come from one provider, CoinMarketCap, and each answers a different question. One returns the latest quote for coins by symbol, slug or ID. One lists all active coins with their latest data. One converts an amount between a coin and a fiat currency or another coin. One returns global market metrics.

You give: a coin symbol, slug or ID. Example: BTC,ETH.

## What differs between providers

- CoinMarketCap API (coinmarketcap-cryptocurrency-quotes-latest): returns the latest price, market cap, volume and 24 hour change for coins by symbol, slug or ID.
- CoinMarketCap API (coinmarketcap-tools-price-conversion): converts an amount of one coin or fiat currency into others at the latest rate.
- CoinMarketCap API (coinmarketcap-cryptocurrency-listings-latest): lists active coins with their latest market data, and filters by market cap and supply.
- CoinMarketCap API (coinmarketcap-global-metrics-quotes-latest): returns global crypto market metrics.

## Before you start

- Use the symbol or the ID with care. Several coins share a symbol, and an ID or a slug picks the right one.
- Ask for the convert currency you need. Each extra convert currency adds to the credit use, and the live price shows the base call.
- This is data, not advice. Prices move, and the number you read is the one at the time of the call.

## Prompt

Use looot to get the current price, market cap, 24 hour volume and 24 hour change of BTC,ETH in USD, and convert 1 BTC to EUR. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Search the catalog for each step and check its price before you call. 3. Run the cheapest endpoint that fits. 4. Show the results as a table and the total cost.

## Steps and providers

- Fetch the prices: coinmarketcap. 1 call per lookup.

## What comes back

- Price
- Market cap
- 24 hour volume
- 24 hour change
- Currency conversion

## The request and what comes back

Each run is one POST to /v1/runs with an endpoint id and an input. These are illustrative calls with generic values. The run's result holds the provider's own fields.

- CoinMarketCap API: {"endpointId":"coinmarketcap-cryptocurrency-quotes-latest","input":{"symbol":"BTC,ETH","convert":"USD"},"wait":30}
- CoinMarketCap API: {"endpointId":"coinmarketcap-tools-price-conversion","input":{"amount":1,"symbol":"BTC","convert":"EUR"},"wait":30}

## How do I get live crypto prices through an API?

Send the coin symbols to the quotes endpoint with the currency you want. Your agent reads back the price, the market cap and the 24 hour change.

## Can I convert one coin into another?

Yes. The price-conversion endpoint takes an amount and a source and returns the value in the currencies you name, fiat or crypto.

## Can I list the top coins by market cap?

Yes. The listings endpoint returns active coins with their latest data, and filters by market cap, so your agent can fetch the top of the list.

## Is the price real time?

It is the latest quote the provider holds at the time of the call. The endpoint page states the update rate. Do not use it as a trading price.

## Does it cover price history?

This page covers the latest prices. Ask your agent to search the catalog for history endpoints and show the price first.

## How much does one lookup cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.

## Do I pay when a live crypto prices call fails?

No. A call that fails at the provider costs nothing, and your agent can retry it or send it to another provider.

## Do I need an account with each live crypto prices provider?

No. One looot key reaches every provider in the catalog. You top up once, and each call is billed at the price shown before it runs.

## How do I call live crypto prices from code?

Send a POST to /v1/runs with the endpoint id, the input and a new idempotency key, and your looot token in the Authorization header. With wait set to 30, the answer comes back in the response when the run ends within 30 seconds. Otherwise poll GET /v1/runs/<runId>.

## Can I run live crypto prices on a schedule?

That needs scheduled runs, not available yet. Run it by hand whenever you want fresh results.

## Do I pay while my agent is idle?

No. looot bills per call, and nothing runs while your agent is idle.
