# Backlink checker API for your agent

Backlink checker API for an agent: it sends a domain, a subdomain or a page URL to a catalog endpoint and reads total backlinks, referring domains and anchor texts back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## What this does

Backlinks are votes from other sites. A backlink check counts them, shows who casts them and with what words, and flags the ones that look like spam. Your agent sends a domain and reads the profile back in one call, or drills into the full list of links.

The four endpoints here split the job. The summary gives the totals, the spam score and the count of broken links. The backlinks endpoint lists each link, with one row per link or one per referring domain. The referring-domains endpoint lists who links to you, and the anchors endpoint lists the words they use.

You give: a domain, a subdomain or a page URL. Example: example.com.

## What differs between providers

- DataForSEO (dataforseo-backlinks-summary-live-ai): returns total backlinks, spam score, broken backlinks, broken pages and crawled pages for a domain, subdomain or page.
- DataForSEO (dataforseo-backlinks-backlinks-live-ai): lists each backlink, with a default of 100 rows and a cap of 1,000, and a mode that returns one link per referring domain.
- DataForSEO (dataforseo-backlinks-referring-domains-live-ai): lists the referring domains that link to a target, with limit, offset, filters and ordering.
- DataForSEO (dataforseo-backlinks-anchors-live-ai): lists the anchor texts used in links to a site, with backlink data for each anchor.

## Before you start

- Start with the summary. It is the cheapest way to see whether a deeper pull is worth the cost.
- Use one link per domain when you want reach. The backlinks endpoint can return a single link per referring domain, which cuts the noise from sites that link a thousand times.
- Set a limit. The backlinks list defaults to 100 and is capped at 1,000 rows per call, and you page through the rest with an offset.

## Prompt

Use looot to check the backlink profile of example.com: total backlinks, referring domains, the ten most common anchor texts and the share of spammy links. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Search the catalog for each step and check its price before you call. 3. Run the cheapest endpoint that fits. 4. Show the results as a table and the total cost.

## Steps and providers

- Check the backlinks: dataforseo. 1 call per domain.

## What comes back

- Total backlinks
- Referring domains
- Anchor texts
- Spam score
- Broken backlinks and pages

## The request and what comes back

Each run is one POST to /v1/runs with an endpoint id and an input. These are illustrative calls with generic values. The run's result holds the provider's own fields.

- DataForSEO: {"endpointId":"dataforseo-backlinks-summary-live-ai","input":{"target":"example.com"},"wait":30}
- DataForSEO: {"endpointId":"dataforseo-backlinks-backlinks-live-ai","input":{"target":"example.com","limit":100,"mode":"one_per_domain"},"wait":30}

## How do I check the backlinks of a website?

Send the domain to the backlink summary endpoint for the totals, then to the backlinks endpoint for the list. Your agent returns the count, the referring domains and the anchors.

## What is a spam score?

A rating of how likely the links pointing at a site are to come from low-quality sources. A high score is a reason to look at the link list and decide whether to disavow.

## Can I see my competitor's backlinks?

Yes. Any public domain can be the target. Run the same summary on your site and theirs, and compare the referring domains and the anchors.

## How many links can I pull at once?

The backlinks endpoint returns up to 1,000 rows per call. Page through more with an offset. Each call is billed on its own, so ask for the slice you need.

## Do all these endpoints come from the same provider?

Yes. They share one data set, so the counts agree across calls. That is useful for consistency and means there is no price comparison across providers on this page.

## How much does one domain cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.

## Do I pay when a backlink checker call fails?

No. A call that fails at the provider costs nothing, and your agent can retry it or send it to another provider.

## Do I need an account with each backlink checker provider?

No. One looot key reaches every provider in the catalog. You top up once, and each call is billed at the price shown before it runs.

## How do I call backlink checker from code?

Send a POST to /v1/runs with the endpoint id, the input and a new idempotency key, and your looot token in the Authorization header. With wait set to 30, the answer comes back in the response when the run ends within 30 seconds. Otherwise poll GET /v1/runs/<runId>.

## Can I run backlink checker on a schedule?

That needs scheduled runs, not available yet. Run it by hand whenever you want fresh results.

## Do I pay while my agent is idle?

No. looot bills per call, and nothing runs while your agent is idle.
