# Unix timestamp converter: run it free, or from your agent

Unix timestamps to dates in any time zone and back, with the unit detected from the number of digits.

## Prompt

Use looot to run [endpoint or job] and make its dates readable. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Search the catalog for the endpoint and check its price before you call. 3. Run it. 4. Find every field that holds a Unix timestamp, detect seconds or milliseconds from the digit count and add the date in ISO 8601 for [time zone] next to it.

## What it needs

A Unix timestamp or a date

## What comes back

- ISO 8601 in UTC
- date in a chosen time zone
- relative time
- Unix seconds and milliseconds
- HTTP date

## Endpoints and providers

None. The tool on the web page runs in the browser and calls no endpoint.

## What it costs

Nothing. The tool on the web page runs in the visitor's browser: no account, no API call and no limit per hour. The prompt above runs the same job from your own looot account with current data, billed per call.

## Read logs

Turn epoch times in logs and database rows into dates you can reason about.

## Write a query

Get the exact seconds or milliseconds for a date filter.

## Across time zones

See one instant in UTC and in your team's zones side by side.

## Token times

Read the exp and iat values of a JWT or a signed URL.

## What is a Unix timestamp?

The number of seconds since 1 January 1970 at 00:00 UTC, not counting leap seconds. Many systems use milliseconds, microseconds or nanoseconds instead.

## How do I know if a timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?

Count the digits. A current date is 10 digits in seconds, 13 in milliseconds, 16 in microseconds and 19 in nanoseconds. The page detects the unit this way, and you can set it by hand.

## How do I convert a date to a Unix timestamp?

Use Date to timestamp: pick the date, the time and the time zone. The page gives seconds, milliseconds and the UTC ISO 8601 form.

## Does a Unix timestamp have a time zone?

No. It names one instant, the same everywhere. A time zone only matters when you show it as a calendar date, which is why the page lets you pick one.

## What is the year 2038 problem?

Systems that store seconds in a signed 32 bit integer overflow on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC. 64 bit timestamps, used by JavaScript and most current systems, do not have this limit.

## How do I get the current Unix time in code?

In JavaScript, Math.floor(Date.now() / 1000). In Python, int(time.time()). In a shell, date +%s. The live clock at the top of the page shows the same value.

## Is anything sent to a server?

No. Conversion uses your browser's own clock and time zone data.
