# URL slug generator: run it free, or from your agent

Clean URL slugs from titles, one per line, with accents dropped, stop words optional and a length warning.

## Prompt

Use looot to write URL slugs for these titles: [paste the titles]. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Make each slug lowercase, with hyphens, without accents or stop words. 3. Keep each under 60 characters and keep the main keyword. 4. Return a table of title and slug, and flag any two titles that get the same slug.

## What it needs

Titles, one per line

## What comes back

- one slug per title
- length of each slug
- full URL with your base path
- warnings for long or empty slugs

## Endpoints and providers

None. The tool on the web page runs in the browser and calls no endpoint.

## What it costs

Nothing. The tool on the web page runs in the visitor's browser: no account, no API call and no limit per hour. The prompt above runs the same job from your own looot account with current data, billed per call.

## Blog posts

Turn a post title into a short slug that keeps the keyword.

## Bulk imports

Make slugs for a whole product or post list in one paste.

## Other languages

Turn accented, German or Cyrillic titles into plain Latin slugs.

## CMS migrations

Have your agent build slugs for every page and flag duplicates.

## What is a URL slug?

The part of a URL that names one page, after the domain and any folder. In example.com/blog/trail-shoes, the slug is trail-shoes.

## How do I make a slug from a title?

Paste the title in the box at the top of this page. The slug updates as you type. Paste several titles, one per line, to get one slug each.

## Should a slug use hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens. Google's URL structure guidelines recommend hyphens over underscores to separate words.

## Should I remove stop words from a slug?

Often, when the meaning survives. trail-running-shoes-rocky-ground reads as well as the full title and is shorter. Keep them when the slug reads wrong without them.

## How long should a slug be?

Short enough to read at a glance. The tool flags slugs over 60 characters, a guide rather than a search engine rule.

## What happens to accents and other alphabets?

Accents are dropped, so café becomes cafe. Pick German to spell ä, ö and ü as ae, oe and ue, or Cyrillic to spell Russian letters in Latin. Other scripts, such as Chinese, give an empty slug.

## Is this slug generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account and has no limit.
