## How do I check if an Instagram username is taken?

## Why does a name look free but Instagram will not let me take it?

Instagram also blocks names of banned or deactivated accounts and names it reserves. Those return no profile here, so they look free. Try to claim the name in the app to be sure.

## What characters can an Instagram username have?

Letters, digits, dots and underscores, up to 30 characters. The checker refuses anything else before it runs.
