## How do I convert HTML to Markdown?

Paste the HTML in the left box. The Markdown updates as you type. Use Copy Markdown, or download it as a .md file named after the page title.

## Which HTML elements are converted?

Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, pre blocks with their language, links with titles, images, ordered, unordered and nested lists, checkboxes as task lists, block quotes, horizontal rules, definition lists and tables.

## What happens to scripts, styles and forms?

Scripts, styles, iframes, SVG, video, buttons and select boxes are dropped with their content. With Main content only on, nav, header, footer, aside and forms are dropped too.

## Can I paste a whole web page source?

Yes. Paste the full source from view-source. With Main content only on, the converter keeps the main or article element when the page has one and drops the page chrome.

## Can I convert a URL instead of pasted HTML?

Not on this page. The website to Markdown tool linked below fetches a live URL and returns it as Markdown.

## Are tables supported?

Yes, as GitHub tables. The first row becomes the header row. Merged cells are not kept, and line breaks inside a cell become spaces.

## Are links safe?

Links keep http, https, mailto, tel and relative targets. Any other scheme, such as javascript:, is removed and only the link text stays.

## Is my HTML uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with no server call.
