# Character counter: run it free, or from your agent

Characters with and without spaces, words, sentences and lines, checked against meta, X and SMS limits.

## Prompt

Use looot to check the length of these texts: [paste the texts]. 1. Set up https://looot.ai/skill.md. 2. Count the characters of each, with and without spaces. 3. Flag any meta title over 60 characters, meta description over 160 and X post over 280. 4. Return a table with each text, its counts and a shorter rewrite of every one that is over.

## What it needs

Any text

## What comes back

- characters with and without spaces
- words, sentences, lines and paragraphs
- fit against meta title and meta description lengths
- fit against the X post limit
- SMS parts and encoding

## Endpoints and providers

None. The tool on the web page runs in the browser and calls no endpoint.

## What it costs

Nothing. The tool on the web page runs in the visitor's browser: no account, no API call and no limit per hour. The prompt above runs the same job from your own looot account with current data, billed per call.

## Titles and descriptions

Check a meta title and description fit before search results cut them.

## Social posts

See how much room is left in an X post before you publish it.

## SMS campaigns

Know how many SMS parts a message takes, and why one emoji can double it.

## Bulk checks

Give your agent a list of titles and get back the ones that are too long.

## How do I count the characters in my text?

Paste or type the text in the box at the top of this page. The counts and the limit bars update as you type.

## Does the character count include spaces?

The main count does. The tile next to it shows the count without spaces, tabs and line breaks.

## How many characters should a meta title have?

There is no fixed count, because search results cut titles by pixel width. About 50 to 60 characters usually shows in full, so the bar marks 60.

## How long can an X post be?

280 characters on a standard account. X counts every link as 23 characters and some emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as 2, so its count can differ from this one.

## How many characters fit in one SMS?

160 when every character is in the GSM-7 set, and 153 per part once a message is split. One emoji or other character outside that set switches the whole message to UCS-2: 70 in one SMS, 67 per part.

## How are emoji counted?

As one character each, the way you see them, even when an emoji is built from several code points, like a flag or a skin tone.

## Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The counter runs in your browser and sends your text nowhere.

## Is this character counter free?

Yes. It needs no account and has no limit.
