# What 1,000 lookups cost: reading the looot catalog

How to work out the cost of 1,000 lookups from the live looot catalog, and why the cheapest provider is chosen per call instead of once per project.

## Summary

Most data tools sell you a plan and a pool of credits. You estimate how many lookups you need, pick a tier, and hope you guessed right. looot works the other way. Each endpoint in the catalog has its own price per call, and you pay for the calls you make.

That makes the question "what do 1,000 lookups cost?" easy to answer, and easy to get slightly wrong. This post shows how to read the numbers.

## Where the numbers come from

The [public catalog](https://looot.ai/public-catalog) lists every endpoint with its provider, what it does and what one call costs. Some endpoints charge per call. Others charge per result returned. A few are free. When an endpoint has no price, we show price on request and do not guess.

The tables below are built from that catalog each time the page loads. If a provider changes its price, the table changes with it. Nothing on this page was typed in by hand.

## Work emails

Finding a work email is the most common lookup. Several providers do it, so the catalog holds several prices for the same job.

Find a work email: live prices per lookup are read from the catalog when the page loads, see https://looot.ai/blog/what-1000-lookups-cost.

- Cheapest email finder
- Cheapest email verification

To get the cost of 1,000 lookups, multiply the price per lookup by 1,000. That is the whole formula. The only catch is that not every lookup finds an address, and what a miss costs depends on the provider. Read the endpoint page before you assume a miss is free.

## Company data

Company enrichment takes a domain and returns facts about the business. The price spread between providers can be wide, because the providers return different amounts of detail.

Enrich a company: live prices per lookup are read from the catalog when the page loads, see https://looot.ai/blog/what-1000-lookups-cost.

- Cheapest company enrichment

Note: The cheapest endpoint is not always the best one. A cheaper provider may return fewer fields. Look at what comes back before you pick on price alone.

## Why the cheapest provider is chosen per call

With a plan, you pick one provider up front and live with the choice. With a catalog, your agent can choose again on every call. For a batch of 1,000 lookups, that can mean some calls go to one provider and some to another, because one has the lower price for the job or finds the address when the other does not.

This is also how a waterfall works. Try the cheapest first. If it finds nothing, try the next. You only pay the higher price for the rows that need it.

- Start with the cheapest endpoint that returns the fields you need.
- Fall back to the next one only for rows that came back empty.
- Stop when a row has what you asked for.
- Keep a count of which provider answered, so you can see where the money went.

## A quick way to estimate your own job

Ask your agent to do the arithmetic against the catalog instead of doing it yourself. It can read the same prices you see here.

The agent will give you a plan and a total before it spends anything. If the total looks high, ask it which step drives the cost.

## What the estimate leaves out

An estimate from list prices covers the calls you plan. It does not cover retries, rows that need a second provider, or extra steps your agent adds on its own. Run a small batch first, look at the real spend in your run history, then scale up.

## Questions

### How do I work out what 1,000 lookups cost?

Take the price per call of the endpoint you will use and multiply it by 1,000. The catalog shows the price per call for each endpoint.

### Why does looot choose the cheapest provider per call?

Several providers do the same job at different prices. Choosing again on each call lets your agent pay the lower price where it works and fall back to another provider only where it does not.

### Are the prices on this page fixed?

No. They are read from the live catalog when the page loads, so they follow provider changes.

## For agents

I have 1,000 companies. For each one I want a work email for the head of sales and one line of company data. Using the looot catalog, list the cheapest endpoint for each step, tell me the price per call, and give me the total for 1,000 rows. Do not run anything yet.
