Can an AI agent replace Clay? What we checked and what it cannot do
We checked each job Clay does against the looot catalog. An agent covers the enrichment work. It does not give you a shared table or a native CRM sync.

Clay is a spreadsheet where each column can call a data provider or an AI step. People use it to turn a list of companies into a list of leads with emails, company facts and a line of research. The question we get is simple. Can an agent do that job without the spreadsheet?
We split Clay into the jobs it does and checked each one against the looot catalog. Some jobs an agent does well. Two it cannot do, and we say so below. The full table lives on the Can I replace Clay page.
What we checked
A job counts as covered only when the live catalog has a priced endpoint that does it. If the endpoint disappears, the page lowers the job to missing on its own. The checks for Clay were these.
| Job Clay does | Can an agent do it? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Find work emails | Yes | Call an email finder endpoint, then try the next provider if it finds nothing |
| Enrich company data | Yes | Call a company data endpoint with the domain |
| Enrich people data | Yes | Call a people data endpoint with a name or profile |
| Research a lead on the web | Yes | Call a web search endpoint and keep one line |
| Scrape a page into fields | Yes | Call a page extraction endpoint |
| Spreadsheet-style table | No | The agent returns data to you, not to a shared grid |
| Native CRM sync | No | The agent writes to your CRM through its own tools |
The part that matches: waterfall enrichment
Clay popularised the waterfall. You try one email provider, and when it finds nothing you try the next. An agent can do the same in a few lines of instruction. Because looot exposes several email providers behind one key, the agent does not need a separate account for each.
The difference is where the logic lives. In Clay it is columns and conditions you click together. With an agent it is a prompt or a small script. That is faster to change and harder to see at a glance. Which one you prefer depends on who maintains the list.
What an email lookup costs right now
We do not type prices into posts. The table below reads the cheapest priced endpoint in the catalog each time the page loads, so it stays true when providers change.
The cheapest provider is chosen per call, so one lookup may go to one provider and the next to another. See what 1,000 lookups cost for how to read that.
What an agent cannot do
First, there is no spreadsheet. looot returns data to your agent. If several people need to look at the same grid, filter it and comment on rows, you still need a place for that. A spreadsheet or a database works, and your agent can write to either.
Second, there is no native CRM sync. Your agent has to push rows into your CRM through the tools it already has. That is possible, but you set it up and you check it. looot does not do it for you.
A prompt to try
This is the prompt from the replace page. Paste it into the agent you already use, with a list of companies.
Prompt for your agent
Prompt to replace Clay
Check ten rows by hand before you run a thousand. Agents are good at following the steps and less good at telling you when a provider returned a weak match.
Our verdict
For the enrichment work, mostly yes. For the shared table and the CRM sync, no. If Clay is mainly a way to call data providers in order, an agent running looot covers it. If Clay is where your team lives, keep the table and swap what feeds it.
