# Read Google Maps reviews: agent skill

Google Maps reviews API for an agent: it sends a Google Maps place ID to a catalog endpoint and reads review text, star rating and reviewer name back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## When it starts

- get the reviews for this Google Maps place
- what do customers complain about at this restaurant
- pull the latest reviews with owner replies

## What it asks for

- The Google Maps place ID. Ask for the business name and location to look it up when the user has no ID
- How many reviews

## How it runs

- looot discover finds the endpoint
- looot inspect shows the price and the input schema
- looot run executes it, billed per call
- Endpoints in order: anyapi-run-maps-reviews, anysite-api-google-maps-reviews, searchapi-io-google-maps-reviews

## What comes back

- Review text
- Star rating
- Reviewer name
- Posted date
- Owner reply

## Answer rule

Summarize the themes with the star rating, quote at most a line from a review, and say how many reviews were read.

## Install

Save the skill file as /agent-skills/google-maps-reviews/SKILL.md, or tell your agent: set up looot, then use /agent-skills/google-maps-reviews/SKILL.md.

## Difficulty

easy

## How do I get Google Maps reviews with an API?

Find the place ID with a Maps search, then send it to a reviews endpoint. Your agent reads the reviews as JSON with the rating, the text and the date.

## Where do I find a place ID?

A Google Maps place search returns it for each business. Your agent can search for the business by name and city, take the place ID from the first match and then fetch the reviews.

## How many reviews can I get?

One provider returns up to 100 in a request, and the others page through the rest. A very large place needs several calls, and each call is billed.

## Can I read reviews of a competitor?

Yes. Reviews on Google Maps are public. Run the same call for your location and theirs, and ask your agent to compare the themes.

## Can I get reviews in a specific language?

One provider here takes a language parameter, and another takes language and region codes. Check the endpoint page of the provider you use.

## How much does one place cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.
