# Check a domain's backlinks: agent skill

Backlink checker API for an agent: it sends a domain, a subdomain or a page URL to a catalog endpoint and reads total backlinks, referring domains and anchor texts back. Several providers sell the call, so the agent tries the cheapest first. You pay per call, and a failed call costs nothing.

## When it starts

- check the backlinks of example.com
- who links to this page
- find broken backlinks pointing at my site

## What it asks for

- A domain, a subdomain or a page URL

## How it runs

- looot discover finds the endpoint
- looot inspect shows the price and the input schema
- looot run executes it, billed per call
- Endpoints in order: dataforseo-backlinks-summary-live-ai, dataforseo-backlinks-backlinks-live-ai, dataforseo-backlinks-referring-domains-live-ai, dataforseo-backlinks-anchors-live-ai

## What comes back

- Total backlinks
- Referring domains
- Anchor texts
- Spam score
- Broken backlinks and pages

## Answer rule

Give total backlinks and referring domains first, then the top anchors. Flag spammy sources instead of counting them as wins.

## Install

Save the skill file as /agent-skills/backlink-checker/SKILL.md, or tell your agent: set up looot, then use /agent-skills/backlink-checker/SKILL.md.

## Difficulty

easy

## How do I check the backlinks of a website?

Send the domain to the backlink summary endpoint for the totals, then to the backlinks endpoint for the list. Your agent returns the count, the referring domains and the anchors.

## What is a spam score?

A rating of how likely the links pointing at a site are to come from low-quality sources. A high score is a reason to look at the link list and decide whether to disavow.

## Can I see my competitor's backlinks?

Yes. Any public domain can be the target. Run the same summary on your site and theirs, and compare the referring domains and the anchors.

## How many links can I pull at once?

The backlinks endpoint returns up to 1,000 rows per call. Page through more with an offset. Each call is billed on its own, so ask for the slice you need.

## Do all these endpoints come from the same provider?

Yes. They share one data set, so the counts agree across calls. That is useful for consistency and means there is no price comparison across providers on this page.

## How much does one domain cost?

You pay per call, and the price depends on the provider your agent picks. This page reads the cheapest live price from the catalog and shows no number when the catalog is unreachable.
